How it works

  1. 1.Open the CSV or text file that shows up as garbage, or paste text when you only need UTF-8 with a byte order mark.
  2. 2.Check the detected encoding — it says whether it came from a byte order mark, valid UTF-8 or a best guess — and switch it if the preview still looks wrong.
  3. 3.If Excel will open the file, tick Write a byte order mark (Excel-friendly UTF-8), then press Convert to UTF-8.
  4. 4.Download the clean UTF-8 CSV. Characters that were already lost when the file was saved cannot be recovered.
