Every path starts from the refund you owe. Refunding without a return adds nothing else. Taking the item back adds the return label and the handling, then subtracts what you can sell it for. Scrapping adds the disposal fee on top and recovers nothing. Storage cost, staff time and the risk of a second return are not in here — treat the result as a floor, not the whole story.
